Something magical happened at NCTE that will fuel me to keep the podcast going. Katie Kelly, Lester Laminack, and Chris Haas wrapped their fabulous session, "Kids Rise Up: Using Literacy Learning as a Vehicle for Civic Action," with a Q&A for the audience. They framed their session around the question: What if young children were empowered to not only dream boldly but develop the skills necessary for creating positive change within their communities? During the Q&A, I shared that I believed that most teachers want to do this kind of meaningful advocacy work with their students, but they may feel scared to do so. I added that it is the role of their leadership to stand with children and trust their teachers' expertise. As I was getting ready to leave, a woman approached to say she recognized my voice as the host of Schoolutions when I shared with the group, and that she looks forward to a new episode releasing every Monday. Her kind words carried me the rest of the conference. She reminded me how important it is to tell people when their work matters to you and how it enriches your life. Our gratitude and simple acts of kindness are ultimately acts of belonging that can have ripples far beyond what we imagine.
